I stole a little trick off shoemoney and went from listening to the radio or music to listening to audiobooks from Itunes during work. I have been listening to Donald Trumps “think big and kick ass” and even if you do not like the guy he does make a lot of sense.
One of the big things he talks about is hiring the best people and not trusting them which is something I have been doing for a while and something I recommend to everyone I work with.
If you are about to start a project its easy to post a project on a freelance site and wait for 200 applications from providers around the planet. Your first issue will be filtering out the 95% that are useless chancers who “blind bid” in the hope of taking your hard earned cash and selling you a bugged up turnkey script.
Once you are down to the final 5% then you need to interview each candidate and verify the have the ability to do the job correctly and in the time frame quoted. I always like to hit these guys up on MSN and during the conversation I throw in a quick script issue which I ask them to fix. If they can not do it there and then I know that they are already useless for my project.
One thing i would say about freelance sites is that 90% of the people on them will take your code and resell it without a care in the world. I have regularly been offered exact clones of projects costing $10k for $500 from so called software houses.
If you have get a serious project and a reasonable budget then my advice is find a software house that’s established, got a reputation and can be visited (even if its in the middle of Romania).
Have a good day!
