My nephew wanted an Iphone for Christmas so I decided to call the Glasgow Apple store and ask them if I could send someone in to collect an Iphone as I was pretty busy. The chap on the phone told me I could but they would have to pay using a credit or debit card as they never accepted cash!
Not wanting to ask anyone to use their card for my phone which I am giving away I managed to finish off early to head into the city to collect a phone using my visa card. I got to the store and headed straight for the desk to ask for a Iphone. The guy went behind the barrier and produced an Iphone then asked mt if I wanted to pay by card or CASH!
I explained to this guy that I had called in earlier and i was told they don’t take cash, had to bring in a card etc but he told me they do take cash but don’t really tell anyone!
I cant help but feel slightly annoyed that thanks to some idiot at Apple Glasgow I had to waste an hour of my time and I really hope someone from Apple can tell me who told the staff to tell Apple Glasgow customers LIES!
So I got the phone and brought it home ready to sign up to an over priced O2 contract for a 12 year old when i decided to change my mind and unlock the phone for any 02 sim. I looked round the net for an easy solution and a company called Iphoneunlockuk was the one I choose. For a mere £39.99 I would be able to unlock this shiny new Iphone onto the 02 PAYG network.
So I sat down about 12.30 am and got started, paid my money and got to the unlock instructions. The site claims to allow unlocking in around 10 minutes but it took me 3 hours of downgrading, upgrading , jail breaking and wi-fi capers. I eventually got the phone working on the PAYG network and spent the next hour playing with!
The unlock is not as easy as the site would have you think but all in all its a great solution and worth the £40 they charge. I would however set aside a couple of hours to get everything set up.
If Apple are reading this then I’m sorry for unlocking your phone but you really should not tell your staff to lie to customers. I will happily accept an Iphone as a gift and use it on your contract as long as I can keep my N95 which is a great bit of kit
